Junior Program

About the Junior Program

In 2009 the Medford EMS, Union Fire Co. No. 1, and Taunton Volunteer Fire Co. combined their respective junior and explorer programs into one group through the Medford Division of EMS and Medford Division of Fire.  The Division met with leaders of Lenape Regional High School Distract and began a program that also offered our juniors and their students credit for the program.  This program was spearheaded by Career Firefighter Ryan Hofmann and is for applicants between the ages of 14 and 18 years of age.  Under his leadership and with the help of the officers and various volunteers from all three agencies this program has become one of the premier programs in the area.

Our juniors meet every Monday night at one of the stations and are taught the skills needed to be a productive and well trained EMT, firefighter, or both.  They also take part in various field trips to places like the FDNY, Philadelphia Fire Museum, and the Mutter Museum in Philadelphia as they learn about various aspects of the EMS and Fire service.  Our juniors have also successfully taken part in the annual New Jersey First Aid Council Junior completion and the Burlington County Emergency Services Training Center Junior Fire Competition.  Our teams have placed at the top of the podium in both competitions. Our juniors are also offered the opportunity to attend EMT classes and Fire academy as they approach the age of 18 so that they can become active adult members of their respective organizations.

If this opportunity seems exciting to you or you would like to know more.  Contact Firefighter Ryan Hofmann at rhofmann@medfordfire.org or 609 953-3291 or fill out the application linked through this site and check the box junior.  We look forward to having you as part of our team.
